POLAR OBSERVATORY TO HOST HEISS ISLAND DXPEDITION

The RI1FJL Russian DXpedition Team to Franz Josef Land has announced that they have received permission from the management of the Ernst Krenkel Polar Observatory allowing the six operators to stay at the base on Heiss island during their activation. Heiss island, IOTA number EU-019, is the world's northernmost DXCC. The Franz Josef Land archipelago is in a glacial region about 870 kilometres, or 540 miles, from the North Pole,

Reporting on the DX World website, team leader Vasily, R7AL, said that the group now expects to depart on the 7th of August with an estimated arrival date on the island on the 15th.
